SUMMARY: Sheffield United 1-1 (P) Hull City - LC rd 1

The Tigers buried their Bramall Lane hoodoo with a welcome midweek cup of joy in the First Round of the Carabao Cup. Admittedly, the match went the distance in it's revised format (a draw after 90 minutes resulting in the game going straight to penalties) but Hull City succeeded and booked their place in hat for the next round.

Into round 2...

It was the visitors who got off to the perfect start with a neat move rounded off by Toral. With ball squared across the box, the City midfielder calmly placed the ball into the back of the net at the far post in the 18th minute - an advantage the Tigers maintained until the interval.

Yet, City weren't afforded the smoothest passage to the second round, as Sharp levelled matters in the 75th minute for the hosts, with a volley on the edge of the box. That ensured the tie went straight to penalties under the new rules - but the Tigers prevailed to claim the shoot-out with a 4-5 victory. And ironically it was Hull City target Norwood on his debut, missing the very first penalty for the Blades, that allowed the win. Dodged a bullet there...
