SUMMARY: Hull City 0-4 Derby County

Well, this looks ominous preparation for the more important game in four days time, when the teams reconvene here at the Circle for a Championship encounter. Yet, this Tuesday evening was all about the League Cup, of what was abundantly clear, City had devoted little if any time for.

Dear me, is it over yet?

Clearly, the hosts were in dispirited mood following Saturday's inept performance at Stoke, allowing Derby to take full advantage. Ex-Tiger Waghorn (don't they all?) found the net for the visitors on 24 minutes to place City on the back foot - and matters didn't improve from there, as Jozefzoon grabbed a second for the Rams on 39 minutes.

Trailing 0-2 at the break, the few who actually bothered attending this fixture were hoping to see some sort of response from the Tigers, but it never materialised. Indeed, the hosts capitulated and a 73rd minute own goal from Fleming compounded Hull City's misery and sounded the death knell on this year's Carabao Cup exploits, well before Mount added a fourth in the last minute.

Lord knows what will happen here for the repeat in four days time, but this dress-rehearsal could not have gone much worse for Nigel Adkins' side.
