PREVIEW: Hull City v Sheffield Wednesday

It’s been some month for Hull City. Free-scoring winger – Jarrod Bowen – clinched the Championship Player of the Month award, while boss Nigel Adkins is up for the Manager of the Month gong for December. Hardly surprising, considering the Tigers started the month in the bottom three and have now elevated themselves up to 13th in the table.

Six straight?

The City boss has worked hard to galvanise a squad that now has confidence, genuine purpose and a never-say-die spirit. Now, Adkins is attempting to become the first Hull City boss since 1910 to piece together six straight league wins in the top two tiers of English football. And to do so, he could well be welcoming back striker Fraizer Campbell, who has a happy knack of scoring against the Owls.

The visitors have a new manager (yet again) in the away dugout – and it won’t be Steve Bruce either. The ex-Tiger boss won’t commence work with Wednesday until February 1st despite taking up the post with the Owls. Instead ex-Hull City coaches Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence will pick the team. Barry Bannan should be fit for selection, Sam Hutchinson is a doubt, while Josh Onomah is ruled out with injury.
